Andrew Rink

Student Soloist

Emerald Ridge High School

Andrew is a senior this year at Emerald Ridge High School, completing his seventh year playing tuba. He began playing euphonium in 5th grade, upgrading the next year in 6th grade to tuba. Currently, Andrew plays in the ER Wind Ensemble under the direction of Scott Fry.  He has studied with Bruce Leonardy, band and orchestra director at Rogers high school, and Jason Gilliam, trombone and euphonium professor at PLU. In addition, he's had opportunities to work with Seattle Symphony's Chris Olka. Andrew has been selected to perform in several groups, including the WMEA All State Wind Ensemble, Puget Sound Youth Wind Ensemble, WIBC, and the South Sound Symphonic Band. His participation in last year's State Solo and Ensemble Contest resulted in two first place performances, a tuba/euphonium duet and a tuba solo. His college plan thus far is to major in computer science and minor in music. He hopes to continue his musical career beyond college to teach lessons and keep playing in ensembles. Outside the world of music, Andrew enjoys playing soccer, being the sound engineer for theatre productions at Emerald Ridge, and staying involved in his church. He thanks his parents, family, and girlfriend for all the support and inspiration they've given him over the years, and for holding his tuba when he gets too tired to carry it. Andrew Rink
